The town of Palamós (Costa Brava), one of the 19 locations where MIC 2015 is being held, saw this morning the Opening Ceremony of the 15th Mediterranean International Cup. The event welcomed more than 200 teams from 34 different countries around the 5 continents with their flag bearers walking along the pitch and waving their flags in a lively and musical show.

With full stands, nearly 5000 people attended, the Catalan authorities received the teams and saw several team representatives reading some sentences promoting fair play within youth football in 11 different languages. Between the crowd enjoying the show was Liverpool FC ex-player Jamie Carragher who shared a picture of one of the moments of the opening Ceremony on Instagram.

Real Madrid and Gimnàstic Manresa played the first of the 600 matches which are going to be host within today and Sunday April 5th inaugurating officially the tournament.

Tomorrow as part of the competition, the International day is taking place in Palafrugell where FC Porto, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona Volendam, RCD Espanyol, Total Football Academy and Palafrugell FC are playing in this location.

Without a doubt one of the greatest things in this MIC’s 15th Edition is the App MICLive which will allow football fans over the world follow all the matches and competitions in real time. Results, line ups and statistics will be available for everyone per second year in a row. This is APP is going to be available either for IOS and Android as well as on the website.

On its 15th Edition MIC is keeping up with its quality in terms of participants as some of the main teams in Europe are represented in some of the categories. Amongst them FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, RCD Espanyol, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Ajax , Internazionale or FC Porto. For first time there is going to be an Indonesian and Dominican Republic side competing.

Throughout the years quite a few players who are now in Europe’s most popular clubs competed at MIC. This is the example of Leo Messi, Neymar, Gerard Piqué, Sergi Busquets, Marc Bartra, Sergi Roberto and Jordi Alba (FC Barcelona), Marcelo Vieira and Lucas Silva (Reial Madrid CF), Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea FC), Lucas Leiva and Coutinho (Liverpool FC), Juan Mata (Manchester United), or Lucas Moura (Paris Saint Germain).

In order to preserve the future of this event MIC and GIrona’s council signed at the end of February a new contract to host the tournament within the Region of Girona-Costa Brava until 2019.
