Mediterranean International Cup (MIC) has grown up more than ever at its 16th edition. The tournament dates are between 23th and 27th of March in la Costa Brava. The amount of players, relatives and coaches of every team has been increased and this will be very reflected in the inauguration and the closing days, when all the participants will be attending.
Beside to this increase, there is another issue: Palamós-Stadium had to put sits to host UE Llagostera games to accomplished the rules of the Spanish Second Division and this reduced the stadium attendance capacity, from 4500 people maximum to 3714. At this time, this wouldn’t be enough to satisfy MIC demand for the biggest days: the Kick-off and The Finals.
PalamoÌs City Hall studied so many options, like to use artificial stands but this couldn’t event afford MIC’16 necessities, and it wouldn’t be a long-time solution, though. So the issue could probably appear again in the next editions. This situation has forced MIC to find a new venue to guarantee the success of the tournament, so the opening and the closing day have been moved to Girona, at Montilivi Stadium.
Palamos, still a reference venue for the MIC
Palamos and MIC are very close, proved in the fact that the city has been the host of all the Tournament Openings and Finals since 2001. The city continues to be one of the most important MIC venues, having all the Saturday Finals: MIC Integra, 2 in Women competitions and Class E; and also more than 50 games of this same Category E in the Josep Masos i Sais field.
Besides, MIC organization is looking to promote some different events in Palamos, like two games of the final stages on Friday evening or conferences in La Gorga Theater, conducted for VIP talking about football.
More teams and clubs than ever
It lasts around a month till MIC begins and Classes B and C are closed with 64 teams each. And the other categories are almost complete, too. MIC’16 has also add new venues, but by now only Girona is confirmed to join the well-known tournament places: Begur, La Bisbal d’EmpordaÌ€, Calonge, CassaÌ€ de la Selva, L’Escala, L’Estartit, Hostalric, Llagostera, Lloret de Mar, Mont-ras, Palafrugell, PalamoÌs, Platja d’Aro, Sant Antoni de Calonge, Sant Feliu de GuiÌxols, Santa Coloma de Farners, Santa Cristina d’Aro, Sils, Torroella de MontgriÌ, Tossa de Mar and Vidreres.
